Treatment at the best Treatment Centre in the world is only the first stage in the recovery process. Some would say recovery does not begin until the residential treatment is over.  A crucial part of the recovery process is a package of Aftercare including attendance regularly at 12 Step meetings or other support groups, attendance at, ideally, weekly Aftercare groups with peers from the same treatment centre and follow up one to one sessions where indicated.  Without this Aftercare package, recovery can be difficult and without the fun and enjoyment of life that a full recovery will bring.

Treatment abroad brings its disadvantages in that attendance at the treatment facility’s Aftercare group is often impossible. However, today there are possibilities on-line using the Internet and this can be a substitute for personal attendance at a group meeting.

Recovery in Reality recognises the importance of Aftercare and runs 3 Aftercare groups in Europe: in Bromley, Kent in the UK (weekly), on the Algarve in Portugal (weekly in the English language) and in Utrecht, the Netherlands (monthly in the English language). Attendance at these meetings is free for patients who have gone into residential treatment under the guidance of Recovery in Reality and for others there is nominal charge of Euros 35 to cover expenses.

These Aftercare groups run by us are not a substitute for the Aftercare groups of the treatment centre in which you sought treatment when this is available nor are they a substitute for attendance at 12 Step meetings or similar support groups.
