Recovery in Reality’s aim is to help you identify the addictions treatment centre that best meets your needs. With the other services we provide our hope is that the total package will enable you or your loved one to access treatment with the minimum of fuss, stress or delay. Using our own personal knowledge we can point you in the right direction saving you the time and often confusion of deciding between the hundreds of facilities worldwide. We do not charge you nor do we receive or ask for commission from the facility you choose. We believe by acting this way we remain ethical and remove any bias based on financial consideration. We will however ask you to also consider our partner treatment facility at Nova Vida Recovery Centre in Portugal when you make your choice. We believe that we are good at what we do in residential treatment and have considerable professional qualification and experience in dealing with many aspects of addiction treatment including some co-occurring disorders and are backed by an appropriate mix of experts. However when we do not feel we are competent we would not dream of suggesting using us. There are also occasions when the competence and experience exists within the treatment team but geographically it would be safer to be elsewhere. This is particularly applicable when dealing with issues of abuse or other trauma where the ease of escape when the going gets tough mitigates against local treatment. Your head knows you need to stay but your emotions tell you to flee.
The aims of residential addiction treatment are not just the stopping of the use of alcohol or drugs or addictive behaviours but also looking at the underlying issues, either stemming from childhood or ineffective coping strategies for modern living that triggers the use. It is because we are all different in this world that we feel that one size does not fit all and one treatment centre cannot be experts in every issue. Unfortunately direct contact with a treatment centre does not always give you a true picture. They may tell you they can deal with trauma but do they really have the expertise? Travelling for a few hours to get the treatment you need, distancing yourself from the triggers of home or the distractions of family and work, can be extremely beneficial. There are often also cost savings which eliminate the cost of the air fare. Recovery in Reality will point you in the right direction.
